Family Wealth Management is the product of a truly international effort, bringing together two co-authors on opposites sides of the world to address a topic of global importance. Mark Daniell (from Europe/Asia) is a former director of Bain & Company and the chairman of two of the world′s largest family trusts. Tom McCullough (from North America) is the Chairman and CEO of Northwood Family Office and professor of Private Wealth at the University of Toronto.
Mr. McCullough is the Co-founder, Chairman, CEO, and CIO of Northwood Family Office, a leading global multifamily office based in Toronto. Northwood looks after the integrated family and financial needs of an exclusive group of wealthy families and has consistently been ranked the number one family office in Canada in the Euromoney Private Banking Survey.
He is one of the founders of the Wigmore Association, an association of independent family offices from around the world, of which Northwood Family Office is an active member.
Mr. McCullough is also an adjunct professor of finance at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, one of the leading research universities in the world. He teaches the Management of Private Wealth in the Rotman MBA program.
Prior to founding Northwood Family Office, he was a senior executive and member of the executive committee at RBC Wealth Management.
He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Wealth Management, the founding chair of the Canadian Private Family Office Invitational, and an entrepreneur-in-residence at the Ivey School of Business at Western University.
Mr. McCullough is a graduate of the University of Toronto (BCom) and the Schulich School of Business at York University (MBA). He holds other designations including Chartered Investment Manager, Certified International Wealth Manager, and a certificate in Family Business Advising.
He is married with two adult children, lives in Toronto, and is active in charitable pursuits, most notably microfinance and poverty alleviation in the developing world.
Mark Haynes Daniell is the Founder and Chairman of the Raffles Family Wealth Trust, a Singapore-based strategic advisory boutique focused on strategies for family investments, transactions and businesses. Raffles also provides services to wealthy families and their family offices in establishing and operating selected activities in Singapore, Europe, and other parts of the world. He is also the Founder and Chairman of his own family office in Singapore.
Mr. Daniell is a former senior partner at Bain & Company; director of Wasserstein Perella; and president of k1 Ventures, a strategic investment company publicly listed in Singapore. He created and chaired the Private Wealth Management Initiative as part of the Singapore government’s Economic Review Committee in 2002. He is a director of various listed and private companies, including Olam International, Tiryaki Agro, Aquarius Investment Advisors Pte Ltd. (Vice Chairman), Sacoven PLC (Chairman), and a Co-founder of Capital Partners of Georgia.
He is the author of several books, including Strategy for the Wealthy Family: Seven Principles to Ensure Riches to Riches Across Generations (John Wiley & Sons, 2008), Family Legacy and Leadership: Preserving True Family Wealth in Challenging Times (co-authored with Sara Hamilton; John Wiley & Sons, 2010), Wealth Wisdom for Everyone: An Easy to Use Guide for Personal Financial Planning and Wealth Creation (World Scientific, 2006), Strategy: A Step-by-Step Guide to the Creation and Presentation of World Class Business Strategy (Palgrave Macmillan, 2008), The Elements of Strategy: A Pocket Guide to the Essence of Successful Business Strategy (Palgrave Macmillan, 2009), World of Risk: Next Generation Strategies for a Volatile Era (John Wiley & Sons, 1999), and World of Risk: An Alternate Model of Global Strategy and Leadership (World Scientific, 2004; reprinted 2006). He also contributed chapters to China’s Century: The Awakening of the Next Economic Powerhouse (John Wiley & Sons, 2001) and Handbook of Business Strategy (Emerald Press, 2006). His first book, World of Risk, was a Sunday Times of London Business Book of the Week and appeared in numerous foreign language editions.
Mr. Daniell is a graduate of Harvard Law School (JD), Oxford University (University College, BA and MA), Amherst College (BA), and the Phillips Exeter Academy. Mr. Daniell also has earned diplomas from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris and l’Université Sorbonne-Paris (Paris IV). He has lectured at INSEAD, Harvard Business School, IMD, IESE, NUS, and other academic institutions, and is a frequent guest on the BBC, CNBC, CNN, Bloomberg, Channel NewsAsia, and other media channels.
