What do you do at Northwood?

I am Principal, Investments and my role is to support our Family Office Advisory team on all things investment related.  

This includes macroeconomic and market observations, asset allocation, manager selection, due diligence, portfolio construction, liquidity forecasting, performance benchmarking and attribution analysis, regulatory compliance, and the ongoing monitoring of all Northwood's external managers and recommended investments.

What surprised you the most since you've been at Northwood?

How quickly the team has grown.  When I joined in 2018 all our staff could fit in a single meeting room. Today we there's isn't a room in the office that can seat all of us at the same time. It’s great to have so many new perspectives and enthusiastic new team members.

What are your favourite things to do outside of work?

During the week I try to stay fit playing soccer or working out in my condo gym. On weekends, I'm a volunteer rifle marksmanship instructor with Project Mapleseed.

I also actively compete in various long-range precision rifle shooting series, mostly in Ontario, and in the Northeast/Midwest US.

Do you have a special hobby?

I first learned long-range shooting when I joined the Canadian Armed Forces 29 years ago.  I served for 10 years total, first in the Army Reserve, then at Royal Military College, and lastly in the Royal Canadian Navy before releasing in 2004.

Fast-forward multiple years and at the start of the COVID pandemic when my soccer league shut down I had to look for a new outdoor pastime. I ended up getting back into competition shooting after a long hiatus.

Last season I qualified for the 2022 National Rimfire Finale in Texas, and finished the year ranked 6th in the Precision Rifle Series rimfire production division rankings in North America.

Anything exciting coming up for you?

The Canadian Precision Rifle Association has invited me to be part of Team Canada for the International Precision Rifle Federation 2023 Rimfire World Championships this summer in Perugia, Italy.
