Barrett is a Senior Vice President in Northwood’s Family Office Advisory Group and a member of the firm’s Senior Leadership Team.
Over the past 15 years, he has worked with a range of wealthy families, specializing in helping active and retired business owners, executives, and professionals achieve their family, financial, and legacy goals. One example of his work includes helping business owners transition from the day-to-day responsibilities of running a business to navigating life post-sale, addressing everything from cash flow planning, investment strategy, and tax planning to family governance, wealth transition, and philanthropy.
He joined Northwood in 2010 as an Associate—the sixth employee at the time—supporting clients primarily in planning, tax, and accounting, leveraging his technical strengths from his previous role at KPMG LLP. Over time, Barrett developed his investment acumen through training and education, and expanded his expertise through hands-on experience to include family governance and philanthropic planning. Barrett is a Chartered Professional Accountant, registered Portfolio Manager with the Chartered Investment Manager designation, a Certified Financial Planner, and has completed the CICA In-Depth Tax Program.
In addition to advising families, Barrett co-chairs Northwood’s Client Team, where he helps guide how the firm serves clients. He promotes a team-based approach to deliver consistent, high-quality service for clients.
Outside the office, he enjoys staying active, reading, and spending time with his wife and three sons.
